Overnight Sensations 2 of 2

Second pair complete. Mostly the same finishing technique as the first pair. The only difference was that I used a spray poly for the last few coats. It turned out okay. Certainly good enough for computer speakers.                Continue Reading

Oppo to remove ISO support from BDP-95 and BDP-93?

Oppo to remove ISO support from BDP-95 and BDP-93?

An unfortunate rumor surfaced yesterday that Oppo Digital has been strong-armed into stripping the ability to access ISO files from an attached hard drive from their two very popular Bluray players, the BDP-93 and BDP-95. No official word from Oppo yet, but the assumption is that someone with industry heft didn’t like this. This ability was addedContinue Reading

Overnight Sensations 1 of 2

This is my first pair of the Overnight Sensations, designed by Paul Carmody. Paul is an active member of the DIY speaker community and has been generous in sharing his designs with others, free of charge. I bought the “flat pack” kit from Erich H. of the DIY Sound Group. Foam Speaker Grilles

Foam Speaker Grilles

I’ve been meaning to give these grilles some attention.  I happened to be browsing the Parts Express tech forums when the proprietor of this foam speaker grille company offered his services to a few DIYers for no charge.  I had been struggling with ideas for my grilles, so I took him up on the offer. Rear Frames Installed

Rear Frames Installed

This will look like little progress since my last post, but my hands would have you believe otherwise. After the plum brown barrel finish, the frames needed to be sealed.  I used some Trewax clear paste wax.  This is usually used on wood, but I had read good things about its performance for sealing metal.Continue Reading

Rear Frame complete

Rear Frame complete

The frames for the rear are complete.  The holes need to be opened up a little bit and then I can attach them.  I’m still waiting to see how the finish turns out – I may go with another coat of the Birchwood Casey stuff.  It is looking pretty good, but it will darken overContinue Reading
