Gluing #2

Borrowed a few clamps from a person. 2nd rear panel is drying now.

Looks like things are shaping up Ben!

Have you made a final decision on the granite color? How is the baffle coming along?

    Hi Richard,

I’m pretty set on the Red Dragon. I won’t be having it cut until the cabinets are complete and I can make sure they measure out as they were designed. I’m pasting my response to your earlier comment below. Maybe you can weigh in.

    ……..

Yes – I was pleased when I learned Red Dragon was a hard stone. It is quite gorgeous. I talked to some people at work, where I will be having it waterjet, they concurred about the rodding. But I’ve only got .685″ from the edge to the nearest through-hole edge for the woofers. Is that enough? Would doing it there perhaps make it more vulnerable? I could conceivably make the baffle another 1/2 inch wide, which would give me almost an inch at that measurement, but I don’t think I could go more than that without influencing performance.

The rodding I use is 1/8×3/8 so if you are careful with your saw and cut a straight line you should be fine. It depends on the rodding you use as to whether it makes it more vulnerable or not, for your application I think there is more risk in not using it. I am sure they advised you at the jet shop that there is always a risk of breaking during the jetting process. The rodding would hold the piece together if it did happen to break.

This is all speculation on my part as I have not jetted a baffle and do not rod the ones I produce. Course I did break more than a couple!

Gluing #1

Every time I think I will finally have enough clamps, I find myself wanting 3 or 4 more.  I glued the bracing to one of the side panels for each cabinet first.  Today I clamped up the first of the rear panels.  In addition to a few more clamps, I’d like another 3 or 4 hands.
